Andros Townsend transfer news: Saints losing belief of contract for spurs winger

Southampton are resigned to missing out on Andros Townsend after manager Ronald Koeman confirmed the Tottenham winger is unlikely to join Saints.

Koeman has been working to pull Townsend to St Mary’s before the transfer window close, Mauricio Pochettino is unwilling to sell.

It’s difficult because it’s one of the players on our list, but it’s very difficult and I don’t expect good news about that,” Koeman said.

You can’t say completely because this is football.

Southampton are hoping to clinch their first Barclays Premier League victory of the against West Ham on Saturday after losing at Liverpool and drawing with West Brom.

West Ham are an aggressive team and play in a physical way, different to our philosophy,” Koeman said.

“It’s always difficult to beat that type of team, and it will be the same on Saturday.

“Winning in the league is always important because it’s the best way to gain confidence.

“You can talk and you can believe, but points bring in a good feeling.

“We lost to Liverpool and it wasn’t a good game against West Brom.”

“We didn’t make a lot of changes in the team because we are starting the season and we need to improve ourselves and get confidence,” Koeman said.

Saturday is totally different. It’s the Premier League and West Ham away is different to Millwall away.

“You have to be prepared and we are prepared for Saturday.” reports Independent

Tottenham agree astonished £4.7m transfer for Montpellier midfielder

The Ligue 1 club concluded on their official Twitter they had accepted to sell the Frenchman to Spurs and that he would tour to London to pursue a medical and confirm his contract.

Fiorentina and Swansea had both been massively linked with a move for the 24-year-old but Mauricio Pochettino’s side have grabbed a march on the Serie A outfit and their Premier League rivals.

If the move for Stambouli be completed without any problems it would indicate that Tottenham have given up chasing Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.

Pochettino identified the France international as his number one transfer target but Saints boss Ronald Koeman made it perfectly clear how unwilling he was to sell the midfielder reports talksport

Southampton Midfielder:James Ward-Prowse looking to surpass manager’s battle skill

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse under 21 will seek his manager for advice as he seeks to improve his set-piece speciality.

The boy has been linked to David Beckham recently, a man world renowned for his pin-point set-piece accuracy.

koeman master class

For Ward-Prowse, who has started both Premier League matches under Koeman so far, the talent to ask someone so accurately assess at set-pieces is something he will not climb up.

I haven’t had a free-kick session with him yet. He’s got a slightly different style to me, but I’m sure he’ll be able to offer me some advice.” he said to reporters.

“He was an impressive footballer in his day and he’s a great manager to work under, too.

Getting Converged

The Southampton midfielder got close up to his first Premier League goal this weekend, when his free-kick from 25 yards struck the outside of Ben Foster’s post.

Compliment from the boss

Koeman, who is Holland’s record goal-scoring defender, was equally complimentary about Ward-Prowse when questioned, although he did think comparisons to England legend Beckham could add too much pressure on his young stars shoulders.
